An enormous thank you to all workshop participants! We never did make it to the Chine Cole'...we'll have to save that for another time.

Here are the monoprints and drypoints pulled during the workshop!

Community Input Session--WE NEED YOU

Gorman & Company, the City of La Crosse, and other involved parties are holding a community input session for the proposed apartment complex above the new transit center, to be built in the next year. The plan is that this complex will cater to the needs of the rather anemic art community in La Crosse. The live/work spaces would have features necessary for artists, and there would potentially be gallery space and a sculpture garden incorporated intot he design of the building.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT. I am on the City Art Steering Committee, and I have watched this project progress through various stages of design. There is a danger, however, that the effort will be co-opted by outside interests and will turn into a building with only superficial ties to the art world.

The La Crosse art scene needs all the help it can get. It is not often that resources become available for young artists to take advantage of around here, and we need to make sure that this project does not become a misguided effort and misallocated funds. We need to represent ourselves at this meeting, where developers and City officials will be gauging the art scene by those present. Even if this project does not end up servicing the needs of young, un-rich artists, it is an opportunity for all of us to have a say in where this town's art community is going.

from the taping board

Since the subtitle of this blog is 'news and art', I thought I'd get the ball rolling by posting a bit of the latter.

I have spent the past couple of weeks thinking and rethinking how I wish to progress with the ideas generated by the making of this print.  A couple of strong contenders have become more fully formed in my mind's eye and I'm excited to work them out and see where they lead me.  I'm thinking I'll post updates with images and sketches as this project evolves - we'll see.

The past three months have been fueled by the simple need to be in the studio after not having access to proper facilities for so long.  It was fun.  I felt like a kid in a candy store and enjoyed becoming reaccquainted with the art and craft of printmaking and making for the sake of it.  Working in a well equiped studio without deadlines is liberating and now it's time to get down to the serious business of creative play.
