Green Bay Street Studio is moving downtown! We had a great run at Green Bay Street and we have fond memories of the 2 1/2 years we spent there. We will miss many things about this space; the chainsaw massacre doors, grilling out back and most of all Doug, the friendly blacksmith down the hall. Thanks to everyone for making it possible for us to move on to bigger and better things, and we hope to see you all downtown at our new space.
Green Bay Street Studio is now officially Vitamin Studio.

Blank Page Artist Second Visit to GBSS
On Friday, April 23rd, the Blank Page Artist visited our studio for the second year in a row. They are a group of young artist from Harry Spence Elementary, who won field trip to our Studio. These youngsters were winners of an art contest through the school, and their reward was to visit and do workshops at our studio.
With 24 students we split up into 3 groups. 1 group working on monoprints with Jenn, group 2 did still life drawings with Matt, and the 3rd group splatter painted outside with Erich. After we completed each session we did a group critique that allowed us to discuss the work we produced that afternoon. Every student got to take home the still life drawing, while the paintings and mono prints stayed at the studio to dry and then delivered to the students this week.
It was a fun a crazy afternoon, with great success in all categories!

Critique Night
Green Bay Street Studio Critique Night!
Friday, April 23, 2010, 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Our next semi-monthly-ish critique night is coming up next Friday! It's inter-university and inter-disciplinary. Our goal is to get people talking about art with new people, and in new ways, that they wouldn't have had the chance to before. To have teachers/professors talking about their own art with students and working artists talking with budding artists. Critiques are the vitamin of the artist, and we're trying to expand the discourse of art in La Crosse and make us all better at what we do.
All media and disciplines are welcome, so come for a laid back evening of discussion and learning, and feel free to bring a snack or beverage to share (in addition to art). Going forward, critiques will be happening quarterly, to make sure that everyone has lots of new art to share and crit.
We hope you can make it and please feel free to pass the word on. Thanks! GBSS

GBSS 2 Year Celebration!
GBSS is celebrating two years of operation with a reception and open house on Saturday, March 27, beginning at 7 pm. Come see what we've been up to and mingle with fellow artists from around the area. It's an exciting time for La Crosse's art community right now, and we'd like to have you over to meet, share, converse, partake in beverages and hors d' oeuvres, and just have some fun in our studio.
We will have art on display by studio members and friends including Jenn Bushman, Erich Boldt, Matt Duckett, Lisa Ulik, Sarah Piper and Alesa De Jager.
Green Bay Street Studio is located at 1500 Green Bay St., along with the Family Resource Center. We're around the back, in the southeast corner of the building. For more information, directions, and to see what else we're up to, check out our website, www.greenbaystreetstudio.com.

GBSS at La Crosse Public School District Career Fest
GBSS Artists Erich and Matt were at Career Fest last week, representing the Artist profession. The duo stressed the importance of maintaining a sketchbook no matter what field of art you may want to get into. Each page is like two steps forward, and if you put in the paces now, you'll be miles ahead of everybody when it comes time to get the job. Students from Logan, Longfellow, Lincoln and Onalaska middle schools attended the event, and had plenty of thought-provoking questions. They discussed the various fields of art and types of jobs available, gallery representation, and what it's like being an artist. We've gotten some great feedback from the students, and it's great hearing from you! Keep in touch, and feel free to ask us questions at any time, either here on the blog or via email!
